Our Funding

To achieve our objective of leadership for a low carbon future, the foundation has two areas of grant-making:
1. Fellowships for entrepreneurs with early-stage concepts for environmental enterprises
We provide fellowships to individual leaders with promising concepts for profitable and not-for profit enterprise models. These initiatives are typically concentrated in, but not limited to, the low carbon sector. The individuals we support have cutting-edge ideas with the potential for scale & high impact, but require initial grant support to develop an investment-ready business from an early-stage concept.
2. Grant funding for charitable organisations with innovative projects to accelerate a low carbon future
We support organisations working to develop new models and policies to shift the 'rules of the game' in political, economic and financial institutions. We believe that cross-sector initiatives involving representatives from the public, private & non-profit sectors can demonstrate new ways to achieve a sustainable economy.
We support organisations that can create change by carrying out targeted campaigns or policy interventions. These initiatives may address sustainability challenges from the economic, political or financial perspective, by engaging with leaders, policy advocacy or addressing the decision-making process.
We focus our grant-making on UK-based individuals and organisations. At the same time, we recognise that emerging economies such as Brazil, India and China will become increasingly important. For this reason, we will continue to explore how we can work with UK-based organisations to promote positive developments in these regions.
Tellus Mater provides project grants for programme development, and will consider unrestricted grants on a selected basis. We seek to develop long term relationships with like-minded organisations that share our vision.
Tellus Mater takes a strategic approach to grant-making and therefore does not make grants in response to unsolicited applications. However, if you feel that your charitable organisation has a strong link to our funding objectives, please contact us.
